The Natural Approach is based on the following tenets: 1). Language acquisition (an unconscious process developed through using language meaningfully) is different from language learning (consciously learning or discovering rules about a language) and language acquisition is the only way competence in a second language occurs. (The acquisition/learning hypothesis) 2). Conscious learning operates only as a monitor or editor that checks or repairs the output of what has been acquired. (The monitor hypothesis) 3). Grammatical structures are acquired in a predictable order and it does little good to try to learn them in another order.(The natural order hypothesis). 4). People acquire language best from messages that are just slightly beyond their current competence. (The input hypothesis) 5). The learner's emotional state can act as a filter that impedes or blocks input necessary to acquisition. (The affective filter hypothesis).

W procesie nabywania języka obcego rolę odgrywają różne czynniki, do których należy transfer, czyli wpływ języka rodzimego ucznia na jego kompetencję w języku docelowym. Tam, gdzie systemy są paralelne (np. w zdaniu polskim i angielskim szyk wyrazowy jest identyczny a przyswoić należy jedynie nowe formy wyrazów), przewiduje się stosunkowo łatwe przyswajanie materiału językowego, a tam, gdzie są one nieparalelne (np. inny szyk wyrazowy w zdaniu), przewiduje się utrudnienia. ; Dobra dydaktyka czerpie z dóbr takiej wiedzy, przesuwając częściowo wysiłek ucznia i nauczyciela na obszary wymagające więcej uwagi. Dostępne na rynku myśli lingwistycznej publikowane wyniki analiz mają jednak przeważnie charakter czysto akademicki, a ich potencjalna użyteczność do celów dydaktycznych nie została w ocenie wnioskodawcy jak dotąd zagospodarowana w stopniu zadowalającym. Podczas gdy zadowalającą zastosowalność badań w praktyce obserwuje się w przypadku nauk inżynieryjnych czy medycznych, w glottodydaktyce jest pod tym względem dużo do zrobienia. ; Celem przedłożonej monografii jest takie przedstawienie wyników badań autora, które badania te uczyni bezpośrednio zastosowalnymi w dydaktyce. Rynek myśli dydaktycznej i jej praktycznej implementacji oczekuje na taką publikację. Można nawet pójść dalej i stwierdzić, że rynek myśli oraz jej praktycznych zastosowań publikacji takiej wręcz się domaga. ; Monografia powstała na bazie kilkuletnich prac badawczych autora i jest głosem w dyskusji w obszarze językoznawstwa stosowanego - głosem, który konkretnie wskazuje, jak praca akademicka powinna przekładać się na glottodydaktykę. Książka jest zwieńczeniem badań, które dzięki wcześniejszym doświadczeniom w dziedzinie autor mógł przez ostatnie pięć lat prowadzić z perspektywy osoby zapoznanej zarówno z szerokim oceanem wiedzy teoretycznej jak i praktycznymi uwarunkowaniami glottodydaktyki. ; Kontrastywne zestawienia komponentów języka (np. podobne i niepodobne głoski polskie i angielskie, podobieństwa i różnice we fleksji i procesach słowotwórczych, pokrywające się i nie pokrywające się znaczenia słów, paralelna lub nieparalelna struktura frazy czy zdania) przedstawione zostały z takiej perspektywy, która, zachowując dyskurs akademicki, jest jednocześnie wartościowym materiałem dla praktyków. ; Czerpiąc z treści książki, osoby zaangażowane w dydaktykę języka angielskiego w Polsce i języka polskiego za granicą będą mogły tak rozkładać materiał i planować jego utrwalanie, aby optymalnie zagospodarować możliwości poznawcze ucznia. Język monografii (angielski) czyni jej treść dostępną nie tylko dla dydaktyków języka angielskiego w Polsce i środowiskach polonijnych, lecz również dla osób zaangażowanych w dydaktykę języka Polskiego jako obcego.
