Tale of The Mayor's Son / Glyn Maxwell. - Newcastle : Bloodaxe Books, 1990. - 112 stron ; 21 cm.

Słowo kluczowe
Glyn Maxwell's eagerly awaited first book will confirm his reputation as one of British poetry's most exciting new talents, a highly imaginative writer who already has a readership in America as well as at home. Home is an English New Town, a Garden City, the strangest of ordinary places, providing a backdrop for much of Maxwell's work as well as the images that govern it. Love, now simple, now sexual, now bright and naive, now dark and obsessive; the comedy, hypocrisy, and horror of Authority; the absurdities of television, stardom, and advertising: the heroism of the decent and the wisdom of the undecided: these are his themes – and above all the fragility and sting of life, the pain of time passing.

Plato's Ladder / Stephen Romer. - Oxford ; Nowy Jork : Oxford University Press, 1992. - 79 stron ; 20 cm.
Form of Work

Słowo kluczowe
Plato's Ladder is Romer's second book of poems, following his highly-acclimed Idols (Oxford, 1986). The title is an emblem of aspiration, and many of the poems explore this theme, whether in artistic endeavor or in personal relationships. These verses are more directly historical and political in tendency than his past work, but none lack the wit and philosophical scope that are hallmarks of all Romer's poetry.

Słowo kluczowe
"Errata" is Michael Donaghy's second book of poems, following "Shibboleth" (OUP, 1988), which was winner of the Whitbread Poetry Category Award and of the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award. Donaghy demonstrates an eye for the bizarre tale in his new work, and his story-telling is sustained by a romantic and lyrical tone. This book should be of interest to general readers of poetry, libraries, sixth-formers and undergraduates.

This is the first new collection of poems from D. J. Enright since "Instant Chronicles" in 1985. Peering into the nooks and crannies of circumstance, the poet and proser take notice of domestic affairs and foreign exchanges, divine mistakes and human embarrassments, quirks and quiddities, accidents and designs, fashions and fantasies, double lives and single deaths, the dust-heap of history, and the devil walking up and down. As entertaining and disturbing as ever, D. J. Enright continues to comment with sympathy and irony on humanity.

Selected Poems gives the reader, for the first time, a proper idea of Christopher Logue's lyrical gifts, as well as his irrepressible outspokenness and sense of artistic adventure. It contains fine poems which have been out of print for too long and others now regarded as classics.

Intimate Chronicles / Christopher Middleton. - Manchester : Carcanet, 1996. - 94 strony ; 22 cm.
In the first part of this work, against a background of destruction in history and of history, glowing figures move. The second section contains poems about various art works as durable epiphanies. Poems in the third section work around figures that signify resistance, in large ways and small, to destruction, and endurance through it. Various historical periods are sighted or glimpsed through a lens and in a shifting perspective, those of a person now captive, now free. Each section centres on transformation and metamorphosis, Middleton's perennial theme.
