"Britain Now" (Book 2) is part of "Cassette FM" - a new range of self-study audio materials for listening comprehension. Written for intermediate to advanced learners of English, it is the first in the series of books and audiocassettes offering a basic introduction to British life and institutions. It focuses on the press, family, politics and local government. The audiocassette is based on authentic interviews with representatives of each of the four institutions, including journalists, parents, politicians and welfare workers. By listening to the interviews, the learner can build up a comprehensive picture of life in Britain today. This accompanying book is fully illustrated with charts, pictures and diagrams. Each interview is analysed for content and languahe and is fully exploited through a variety of exercises including comprehension questions. The book also contains a glossary, complete tapescripts of the interviews, background information, notes and help with further language work. "Britain Now" is especially useful for students on British Studies courses, but is also useful for any student who is interested in life in Britain today.
